UND WIND ENSEMBLE & UNIVERSITY BAND

TO PRESENT CONCERT MARCH 5

Grand Forks, ND:  The University of North Dakota Wind Ensemble and the University Band, conducted by Dr. James Popejoy, will present a concert on Thursday, March 5, at 7:30 p.m. The performance will be held at the Chester Fritz Auditorium on the UND campus. Tickets, available at the door, are $6.00 for adults, $3.00 for students and senior citizens, or $12.00 per family.

This concert will explore a wide variety of styles and genres from the world of music. The Wind Ensemble will open their portion of the program with a new work by Kevin Walczyk entitled Celebration Fanfare, conducted by UND Associate Director of Bands, Robert Brooks. John Paulson's aleatoric work from the 1970's, Epinicion, will follow. The feature selection in their program will be H. Owen Reed's classic La Fiesta Mexicana. Written sixty years ago, this large scale work is one of the great early symphonies for band. They will close the concert with Jack Stamp's exciting and entertaining Pastime.

The University Band will open the concert with Fandango by Frank Perkins. Their program will also include Michael Sweeney's Out of the Shadows, as well as excerpts from Johan de Meij's The Lord of the Rings. Graduate Conductor Chad Green will lead the band in a performance of Flashing Winds by Jan Van der Roost.
